Windsurfing: Felixstowe dip Wind Direction: east Wind Stength: F5 Surf / Sea State: Waves Air Temperature: cold Sea Temperature: OK Weather: rain Max Speed: no gps Distance Covered: no gps
I overslept after a couple of glasses mellow Rioja Saturday night and
missed the low tide session. Arrived about 1.00 and loads were out on 6M
riding some huge waves.
The tide was coming in big and the break at the dip was dodgy as launching
had to be dead side sure and get off quick be4 the wave broke.
Paul V got of the break OK but Andy Johnson got munched coming in when a
big one whack him from behind.
Having rigged 6.7M / 120 JP Excite pro I quickly realised I was over
powered, so decided to walk to the kiters end rather than try to launch in
those MF waves.
Although over powered all the time, sailed with Paul V in the river mouth
which was flat, but the rollers were brilliant at the kiters end so sailed
straight thru in the rollers, in between up down faces. The JP turned clean
with the 38cm swept back fin, just travelling a little too fast.
Had several burn outs with Paul V on a old school Fanatic Bee which was
very quick on the flat water, and I couldn't catch him, even fully powered
up.
Maker Roger Phil Darren Al Ian were all playing the perfect rollers in the
kite zone and a couple of kiters were getting massive air time of the
lips.
This is the first time in a few years I have been blasting in the river
mouth and it was brilliant although it chopped up as the tide was now much
higher.
I should have gybe with Paul V, but chose to hit the rollers again after
another burn out and was travelling way too fast, and hit the wave full on.
All I remember was everything went floppy and I went over the top yet
again. The boom felt ill, and soon realised the MK front end screw had
ripped thru the plastic holder...game over.
Lucky on an easterly / incoming tide it was easy to body drag back to the
beach, but was way round opposite the golf course. Paul V kindly walked my
rig back, on the walk of shame, the rain was belting down, so decided to
quit whilst ahead.
Pretty much everyone seemed to have had a 5***** day, despite some gear
breaking. My only regret was having just an hour be4 gear failure, not
rigging 6.0M and using the my Mistral Synchro, in some of the best sets I
have seen at the dip.
Forgot my GPS yet again so no speed data. I have now wrecked 2 boom front
ends in consecutive weeks in the same way, the securing screws breaking
thru their holder, and at £45 a head, 2 sessions have now cost me £90!
